Spotlight Presentation

Integrating InfoPath forms into your application using WSE 2.0

Microsoft InfoPath can interact with Web Services to allow for rich form functionality. Out of the box, InfoPath only supports accessing Web Services across an HTTP connection. Consequently, this means that to integrate InfoPath into your solution, you must host your Web Services in an HTTP server (IIS or http.sys included in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP SP2). Many times, this configuration is not supported in the environment that your application executes within.

However, with the introduction of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft InfoPath, Microsoft made available the InfoPath SDK. With the InfoPath SDK, it is possible to write code for InfoPath from within Visual Studio 2003. We'll go through the steps necessary to add WSE 2.0 to your application and to your custom InfoPath form so that you can interact with the data structures exposed by your application. This allows you to expose the rich forms editing capabilities of InfoPath to your users thereby reducing the development time involved with UI development while also allowing your business domain experts to define their own forms based on the Web Service API you expose.

This presentation will take you through the steps necessary to integrate InfoPath forms with your Windows applications using WSE 2.0. It will also demonstrate how you can expose Web Services in your .NET Windows Forms application using WSE 2.0.
